50 Million Students Served

From 1966 through 2002, an estimated 50 million students and their families borrowed over $485 billion of federal student loans to pursue postsecondary education. In the course of the nearly 40 years of the federal student loan program, more than half of the $485 billion was borrowed in the first 30 years, while the balance has been borrowed in just the past seven years.
