America’s Student Loan Providers today sent a letter to senators urging them to oppose significant budget cuts in federal student loans. … “The Senate’s first priority should be students and the grant and loan programs that serve them,” the letter states. “Deep budget cuts would make it nearly impossible for Congress to increase access to higher education through much-needed program improvements as part of the [HEA] reauthorization.”  More >>

America's Student Loan Providers Launches ListServ
First Issue Planned for Week of July 21

WASHINGTON D.C. July 21, 2008—America’s Student Loan Providers this week launched "The Landscape," a new listserv for the financial aid community.

Moderated and published regularly, "The Landscape" will contain media articles that offer unique or important perspectives on federal student aid policy and will also include and invite commentary on these articles and other issues of the day.

“ASLP’s new listserv is not intended to duplicate other fine listservs,” said Kevin Bruns, executive director, ASLP.  "Rather, it will publish select articles that offer a fresh or overlooked perspective and would be of interest to the financial aid and student loan communities.

“During this extraordinary period in which broader economic, budget policy and politics create enormous challenges for the federal student loan program, The Landscape seeks to be a forum for insightful and rational debate.”
